Dear Mr. Trump,
With the Iowa caucuses beginning today, I have a few thoughts about your presidential campaign that I would like to share. I am currently a student at The University of Iowa, which means I get to make the choice this year of whether to register to vote in my home state of Minnesota or to claim Iowa as my new home. I decided to register here in Iowa as it is important to me that we do not see a day in which you become the Republican presidential candidate. I’m sure you’re aware that the Iowa and New Hampshire caucuses make a huge impact on who becomes the candidate for each party. Don’t get me wrong, I’m registered as a Republican because I believe in many of the core concepts that the Party stands for, but I absolutely cannot stand you. I truly believe that you are a hateful, bitter man who is ill-intentioned.
The Preamble of the Constitution states: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our property, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” These are the core values that this nation was founded on, and you absolutely do not represent those values. Your plans will presumably do the opposite of establish justice and certainly won’t insure domestic tranquility. You have made several degrading comments about women and immigrants especially, why should anyone think that you will treat either of those groups (who, by the way, take up a huge portion of the citizens of the United States) justly or make them feel safe in their own country?
Let’s not forget that we are a nation literally built by immigrants. Somewhere along the line, your very own ancestors came here from a different country, probably worked jobs with astonishingly low wages, and eventually made a name for themselves so you could stand up there and publicly insult them. The United States of America would not be the United States of America without the Latinos, the Asians, the Africans, the Europeans, and everyone in between. We are a nation with more than one culture, more than one group of people, and more than one perspective. However, you only seem to see your own, which is being white, male, and outrageously wealthy.
Also, do you really think you are a good role model to children– the future of this country? Do you truly believe that you embody the characteristics of someone that they should look up to? Because I don’t know about you, but my parents always taught me to treat others with kindness and respect. In turn, I admired people who did exactly that. You certainly do not, and I would never want my children to hear some of the things that come out of your mouth, no less agree with them.
You seem to be more of an entertainer than a politician. Have you ever thought about going into stand-up comedy? I’m sure you could gather crowds of racist, sexist assholes who think you’re funny. You have already gained a substantial group of Twitter followers with your incredibly offensive tweets. Unfortunately, this country is not a joke and we need a leader who will take the job seriously. So from those of us who actually take this nation and our affairs seriously, please take a step back and decide if the job of president of the United States is right for you.
